No individual exists in a vacuum. We are all constituted by our particular histories, cultures, narratives, and relationships with other people. But it can be easy to forget, or perhaps never notice, how much these constitutive elements inform even the most intimate and personal aspects of our lives—sex, love, and desire. When we struggle in these areas, without knowing, we might instead blame ourselves, and wonder why we cannot simply be better. This habit only compounds the effects of painful and conflicting experiences.
It is my responsibility to build a trustworthy therapeutic relationship with you, so that together we can make explicit how these elements, for better or for worse, have informed your life, how they have created your strengths, challenges, and barriers. My approach does not seek to pathologize or categorize you, but to acknowledge and validate the idiosyncratic ways that you experience pleasure, desire, love, safety, and freedom. Afterall, eroticism is not only about sex, but about how we feel fully alive as desiring beings. Including playfulness, creativity, joy, awe, and connection, eroticism can be the antidote to trauma.
My work is trauma-informed, non-judgemental, and pleasure-positive. I enjoy working with folks of all genders, sexualities, desires, and relationship structures. I integrate relational, feminist, and attachment-based approaches, while I draw on my interdisciplinary background to better understand you in the context of your life. My approach is conversational, and at times gently challenging so that you can move beyond the struggle that brought you here.
As for me—I am a white, cis, woman initially from a rural, mostly conservative town. I have nearly 10 years of experience as a frontline mental health worker here in Vancouver. Both my life and work experience have given me a nuanced awareness of the violence and harm done by economic disparity and class-based divisions. I humbly and respectfully reside on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish People, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Watuth), and Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) First Nations.
